Jim Blalock

1995

My IDS instructors were passionate about their disciplines. They challenged me and they made me raise my standards on what I expected out of myself. I really feel like I learned how to think critically and face any challenge in the road ahead at USAO.

A graduate of Chickasha High School, Jim Blalock spent a year at a regional university away before transferring to USAO.

“I was from Chickasha, so it was home,” Blalock said. “I am really glad I did, because I loved going to school at USAO.”

The son of a businessman, Blalock knew that he wanted to own and operate his own business someday. The instruction he received from the business department laid the foundation for his eventual success but his education didn’t stop there.

“My IDS instructors were so passionate about their disciplines,” Blalock said. “They challenged me and they made me raise my standards on what I expected out of myself. I really feel like I learned how to think critically and face any challenge in the road ahead at USAO.”

Blalock graduated in 1995 with a bachelor of science in business management and took his expertise into the field of automobile sales.

After beginning as a sales associate at Bob Moore/Nissan Cadillac, Blalock’s began moving into management positions at the John Holt Auto Group and, closer to home, Johnson’s of Chickasha.

“I really have been very fortunate to work with some great mentors- people that truly loved what they did and taught me about the auto industry,” Blalock said. “They told me that the ability to communicate and think on my feet was my greatest asset and what got me into management.”

In 2007, Blalock and his father opened a new lot in Anadarko, Cars Etc. Five years later, the pair expanded their operations by moving into the wholesale auction business. The Chickasha Auto Auction now works with some of the biggest dealers in the state.

“I’ll admit,” Blalock said, “that my idea of success at 18 was about going somewhere far away. I had to come home to realize that the best education I could have hoped for was right here.”

“My USAO experience made me into a well-rounded person. I gained perspective and context. It gave me a fresh approach to solving problems, making changes and dealing with people. I wouldn’t trade it for anything…though I might consider a cash deal.”
