Dr. Edith Hammond Scholarship
Dr. Wyvona ‘Alexander’ Lane established this scholarship in honor of her chemistry teacher, Dr. Edith Hammond. It is an unrestricted scholarship open to all USAO students.
Dr. Lane studied chemistry and biology at OCW, graduating in 1938. She remembers Dr. Hammond showed a lot of interest in her students and in trying to place them after graduation. In response, many were productive and active and several were very successful. Lane, for example, continued her chemistry studies in the fall after her spring OCW graduation at Oberlin College in Ohio, where she earned a master’s degree. She would continue her education at the University of Illinois where she obtained a doctorate in chemistry.
