Friends and colleagues created the Rose Marie Smith Communication/Alumni Scholarship when she retired as professor emeriti in 1992. The award is for a junior or senior communication major.
With deep appreciation for their generous and thoughtful action, Dr. Smith accepted this named scholarship on behalf of the excellent professors she had as a student at the Oklahoma College for Women.
“They opened up new worlds for me and encouraged all of us to open our minds, hearts and imaginations to the best that had been in thought, said and done throughout the history of mankind,” Smith said.
“This institution has been more than a school. It has become a way of life. As we see on our University Seal, Minerva, the goddess of wisdom, is surrounded by a set of words which, when developed fully, represents a balanced life: physical, mental, social and spiritual. It is a noble goal and some of us are still working towards it by way of scholarship, leadership and service, the criteria for this award.” Back to Scholarship Page
