Five scholarships have been established with the USAO Alumni Association to honor members of the Good family by Yoshie Good of Chickasha. The Goods were early residents of Chickasha where they have served as civic, art and church leaders for more than a century.
The scholarships are named to honor her husband, Leonard Phelps Good; his brother, Cavin F. Good; their parents, Jacob Calvin Good and Belle Leonard Good; their grandmother, Ella Taylor Leonard and to honor Isaac and Mary Good.
Isaac Good was the fourth in a family of 12 children. He was born in 1852 in Canada and passed away in 1941 in Marion, Kansas. He married Mary Clemmer in 1872.
Good served as vice president and president of the State Bank of Commerce in Marion from 1895 until his retirement in 1932. He served as a city councilman and mayor of Marion.
Early in 1900, Good became interested in land development in Oklahoma and established an extensive real estate business which was managed by his son, J.C. Good and son-in-law, C. Schlotterbeck.
He became a member of the Evangelical church early in life. He gave generously of his means and spiritual support. He served in various official capacities and for many years was a Sunday School teacher.
The Goods were the parents of five children. They also adopted twin girls. Mary preceded Isaac in death in 1937. They were married for 64 years.
The Isaac and Mary Good Scholarship is given to a USAO student based on need. Back to Scholarship Page
