CHICKASHA – With summer on the way, Chickasha’s premier arts camp is gearing up for a fun two weeks by offering scholarships to the community. In its ninth year, Artscope is scheduled June 11-22 on the campus of the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Enrollment for the camp is now open to the public.
CHICKASHA – Classical music meets classic pop when the Concert Choir performs its annual spring concert on April 3 at the University of Science and Arts. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Alumni Chapel.
CHICKASHA – In keeping with its liberal arts tradition, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma is hosting Pulitzer Prize-winning author Dr. Jared Diamond on April 10. The headlining speaker is one of several state and national guests planned for the daylong symposium focused on liberal arts in higher education.
CHICKASHA – Ten art students are joining forces to display pottery, photography, paintings and more as the culmination of their college experience at the University of Science and Arts. Beginning March 31, four graduating art seniors will share the USAO Art Gallery with six 2006 graduates to reveal “WHODNIT,” through April 20.
CHICKASHA – Epic rock songs, cultural romps and jazz ditties are just part of the musical cornucopia in store for the spring Droverspirit Band and Key Players concert at the University of Science and Arts. The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on March 27 in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium in USAO’s Troutt Hall.
CHICKASHA – What is the language of music? For Kory Thomas, it’s Italian. And French. And German. And English, too. To that end, the Chickasha music senior will perform a selection of 15 songs during a free recital March 15 in the Alumni Chapel at the University of Science and Arts.
CHICKASHA – Nearly 350 students faced off recently for an annual high school art competition at the University of Science and Arts. Students from 28 high schools around the state competed in Innovations, an art exhibit held exclusively for Oklahoma juniors and seniors.
Jacquelyn Knapp, assistant professor of art, said that with a history of more than 15 years of competitions, Innovations continues to draw Oklahoma’s best artistic talent.
CHICKASHA – Six music seniors are taking a final bow with student recitals throughout March at the University of Science and Arts. Each recital showcases the students’ musical abilities, whether in voice, instrument or both. All recitals are free and open to the public.
CHICKASHA – Two sopranos from the University of Central Oklahoma are sharing the spotlight for a free recital at the University of Science and Arts on March 6. At 7:30 p.m., the UCO faculty members will sing sister duets from classical music masters such as Puccini, Mozart, Gounod and others in the USAO Alumni Chapel.
CHICKASHA – It’s easy to take for granted the sounds of another voice, the wind, even breathing itself. But local high school students experienced life without sound March 1 at the University of Science and Arts as part of Deaf, Deaf World, a program designed to simulate the everyday challenges faced by deaf persons.
