Jane Oden, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, revered friend and respected advocate for the poor, imprisoned and hungry, passed away Sunday, June 22. She was 76. Rebecca Jane Hazlitt was born in Garden City, Kan., in the depth of the Great Depression, the daughter of John M. Hazlitt and Mary Blanche Hightower Hazlitt. Her family moved to southern Illinois for several years before returning to Pauls Valley where she graduated from high school. Jane attended Oklahoma College for Women and the University of Oklahoma, earning a degree in Early Childhood Education.
Jane Fitzgerald, 87, of Vandalia, passed away at 1:54 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2008 at Tri-County Care Center. Visitation will be Thursday, Nov. 20 from 6-8 p.m. at Waters Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at Waters Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in the Vandalia Cemetery. Dorothy Jane Fitzgerald was born Aug. 13, 1921 in Mexico, the daughter of Joe and Esther (Rodhouse) Wanstreet. She graduated from Vandalia High School in 1939. She received her BS in education from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Okla. She married John Fitzgerald of Vandalia on Feb.
Jajaye Preston Barrett, 88, passed away December 8, 2009 in Houston. Born October 17, 1921 in Oklahoma City to James Clarke and Margaret May Lewis Preston; she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Chemistry and Home Economics from Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma and retired from Armco Steel after over 30 years as an Executive Assistant.
Ivy Mae Coffey was born to Ivy Joseph and Nellie Mae Coffey at Comanche. She attended Oklahoma College for Women and received a journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma. She worked for the Duncan Eagle and Halliburton before moving from Duncan to Ponca City. She worked at Continental Oil Co. in public relations and was city editor of the Ponca City News. She joined the Oklahoma City Times and The Daily Oklahoman working as a reporter and editor. She held positions as Sunday magazine editor, book editor, food editor, women's editor and state staff reporter.
McKee, Irma Nadine Craig Former longtime Duncan resident, Irma Nadine Craig McKee, 87, was born in Cordell, OK on February 2, 1922 and died in Dallas, TX on June 7, 2009. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, June 9, 2009, 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. at Don Grantham Funeral Home with graveside services to follow at 2:30 p.m. at Lawnview Cemetery in Cordell, Oklahoma. Nadine grew up in Cordell with her two sisters Opal and Elaine and it is also where she met and fell in love with Bob C. McKee. They were married May 5, 1941 in Cordell and had just celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Irene Margaret Richardson, born January 29, 1936, in Soper Bluff, Oklahoma, died July 24, 2009 at the age of 73, at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. A funeral mass was held at The Holy Name Of Jesus Catholic Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to memorialize Ms. Richardson on July 28, 2009, Father Goin officiating. Ms. Richardson was cremated, at her wish, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on July 29, 2009. A graveside service will be held August 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha, Oklahoma, Chaplain Everett E. Stropes, Jr. and Reverend Iris G.
Irene McDearmid Barr, 86, of Fitzgerald died Friday, July 18, 2008 at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ches Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Saturday evening at the funeral home. Mrs. Barr was born January 15, 1922 in Fitzgerald, GA to the late Mault T and Willie Mae Kirkland McDearmid. A 1939 graduate of Fitzgerald High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women. She married O.T.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, in South Park Cemetery for Irene Allen, 91, of Roswell who passed away Dec. 6, 2008, after a brief illness. Irene was born on Nov. 14, 1917, in Marlow Okla., to Joe Ira and Zimru Hobbs. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; one sister; her son, David Lewis Allen; her daughter, Linda Johnson; and granddaughter, Melanie Johnson. Irene married John M. Allen in Duncan, Okla., on Nov. 29, 1942. He also preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1979.
Irene Bell Seay, 77, of Duncan, Okla., was called to Heaven Thursday, June 25, 2009, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Funeral services will be at New Hope Baptist Church West, Duncan, at 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009, with the Rev. Randy Southerland officiating. Interment will be at Duncan Cemetery under the direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home, Duncan. There will be a visitation for family and friends today 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born Dec. 3, 1931 to Barney F. Sparks and Delma Marie Owens Sparks in Ada, Okla.
Graveside service for Inez Manning, 95, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Willoughby and the Rev. Johnny Wray officiating. Miss Manning died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, in Lawton. Burial will be under direction of Becker Funeral Home. She was born Feb. 5, 1912, in Grandfield, to John W. and Mattie Settle Manning. The family moved to Lawton in 1913. She graduated from Lawton High School, Cameron State Agricultural College, the Oklahoma College for Women and the Oklahoma Law School.
