Deborah Jean (Strange) Vecchio passed away at home on Monday January 24 after her courageous year and a half battle with ovarian cancer, at the age of 59. Born in Topeka, Kansas Debbie grew up in Marysville, Kansas. After high school she attended Cottey College, a two year women’s college in Missouri. After her graduation in 1971 she continued her education at Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts in Chickasha, Oklahoma where she would meet her future husband John.
Memorial service for Dean McDaniel, Jr., 59, of Dallas, Texas, former Chickasha resident, will be at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 in the Chapel of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha. McDaniel Jr. was born March 21, 1951, in Chickasha, the son of Dean and Helen (Knight) McDaniel. Dean died January 31, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. At the time of his birth there were a number of small hospitals in Chickasha and Dean was born in the hospital two blocks from their home. He attended elementary, junior high and high school in Chickasha graduating in 1969.
Dana Jo Dews, age 93, lifelong resident of Chickasha, Oklahoma, died on January 24, 2011. Interment was on January 28, 2011, at Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of McRay Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 11, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Rev. Barbara Hunt will officiate. Dana was born at the family home on Chickasha Avenue on July 4, 1917. Her parents were Joe Dews and Blanche Johnston Dews. Dana’s sister, Maude, and brother, Rees, preceded her in death. She also had six half-brothers and sisters.
Charlene Dodge Miller passed away in her home during the early hours of Thursday, Dec. 23, 2010, at the age of 84. Charlene was born April 3, 1926, in Pawhuska to Charles "Vance" and Vivian Dodge. The Dodge family moved to Ponca City when Charlene was entering the ninth grade. Her father later opened Dodge Drug Store on Grand Avenue. After graduating from Ponca City High School, Charlene attended Oklahoma College for Women College in Chickasha, where she received her degree in education. She married Sidney "Jack" Estelle McMellon in 1946.
Celebration of life for Carey Brent Miller, 61, of Norman, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 5, 2011, at Journey Church in Norman. Pastor Alan Sample will officiate. Carey was born the son of Roy Lee Miller and Wilma LaVelle Smith Miller on August 23, 1949, in Chickasha. He was taken to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 2, 2011, in Norman. Carey graduated from Chickasha High School in 1967.
Billy George Ketchum Jr. of Rush, Springs died Friday, October 29, 2010. He was born April 8, 1970 in Key West, Florida, the son of Billy (George) and Barbara Ketchum. Billy was a member of the Eastern Delaware Tribe. He graduated from Copan High School in 1988. Billy was active in football, hunting, fishing, gardening, and hanging out with his big sister. Billy married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth (Kraft) Ketchum on Jan. 1, 1988 and had two lovely children, Sarah and Kimberly. Billy was an active and loving father in the livesÆ of his girls.
Annabelle Lee Ross Nieman, 85, passed peacefully into heaven on Monday, October 11, 2010 in Tulsa, OK. Annabelle was born to Ashby G. Ross and Annabelle Hollis Ross on February 15, 1925 in Kusa, OK. Annabelle graduated from Henryetta High School and Oklahoma College for Women. In 1948, while working for American Airlines in Mexico City, Annabelle met and married Ernesto Ornelas, Jr. In October 1962, Annabelle became affiliated with World Book Encyclopedia. In 1971, Annabelle and Lester John Nieman were married.
HICKORY, Alicia Ruth Comby Dunn, 87, of 29th Ave. NE, Hickory died Thursday, October 14, 2010 at a residence in Hickory. She was born August 24, 1923 to her parents, the late Henry Burchard and Alice Mae Little Comby. Alicia was a graduate of Chickasha High School and attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Okla. She worked for the American Red Cross and the U.S. Government in many capacities, including the Department of Agriculture. Two stepsons, Michael Dunn and Pat Dunn, both of Oklahoma; a brother, William J. ""Bill"" Comby of Conover survive her.
