Every year, the university produces a new issue of the USAO Magazine to let our many friends and supporters know about this institution’s 108-year legacy and what our students, faculty, alumni and staff are doing to extend it into the future.
This year’s theme is Giving Back and it is chocked full of interesting articles, video features and slideshows that demonstrate all the ways that giving back impact the people around us.
Sadie L. Smith Abilene Sadie L. Smith, 98, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at a local nursing facility. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, 542 Hickory, with Brent Isbell officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Memorial Park, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Viewing will be during normal business hours on Monday. Sadie was born April 16, 1913 to Emma Mae (Breland) and Herman R. Lieb in Jones County, Texas.
Funeral services for Ruby Mae Bullard will be conducted Friday September 23, 2011 at 2 pm from the First Baptist Church of Elk City with Dr. Russell Duck officiating. Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery of Elk City under the direction of the Martin Funeral Home. Ruby Mae (Beanland) Bullard was born December 17, 1917 in Quail TX, to Curtis Mitchell and Susie Pearl (Scott) Beanland, and passed away September 19, 2011 at the age of 93. Ruby married her sweetheart, Hubert Bullard, on Valentine’s Day in 1941. Together they would build a full life.
Funeral service for Percilla Lee Heisler Lamar, age 93 of Chickasha Oklahoma, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 30, 2011 in the Epworth United Methodist Church. Dr. Rockford Johnson will officiate. Percilla Lee was born the daughter of Charles A. Heisler and May Whitley Heisler on June 17, 1918 on a farm west of Chickasha. She died on Sept. 27, 2011 in Chickasha. Percilla went to grade school at Sandlin School, which was about two miles from home. For the first two or three years of school, she rode in a buggy then walked the rest of the time.
Graveside service for Marva Jean Brown, Enid, will be 10:30 a.m. today, Sept. 27, 2011, in Rosemound Cemetery, Medford, with Pastor Craig VanDeburgh officiating, under direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Following at 2 p.m. will be a Celebration of Life, ôA Day of Rejoicingö service, to celebrate the life of Marva Jean Brown, with Pastor Pat Sutherlin officiating in Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. Marva Jean was born in Enid, the daughter of Rhea Jane (McDaniel) and Christian Earl Herschberger and passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Stillwater Medical Center.
Marla Lane Watson Reimer of Stillwater passed away Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011 in Oklahoma Heart Hospital. Friends may view Saturday, Oct. 1st, from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Services will be held Sunday, Oct. 2nd at 2:30 p.m. in Highland Park United Methodist Church with Rev. Derrek Belase officiating. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Marla was born on Nov. 4, 1948 in Oklahoma City to Bill and Mary (Bonds) Watson. She graduated Stillwater High School in 1967. Marla began her family in 1969 with the birth of her first son, William Jeremy Scott Roberts.
Margarette Henderson Crane, 88, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at The Chesapeake. She was born Aug. 10, 1923, to Clinton and Muriel Henderson in Okmulgee County, Okla., and raised in Beggs, Okla. Mrs. Crane had been a Virginia resident off and on since her marriage to Coy A. Crane in 1955. They lived in Tripoli, Libya, and three years in Augsburg, Germany, while Mr. Crane served in the U.S. Army. They moved from Williamsburg to "The Chesapeake" in 2003. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Oklahoma College for Women and did graduate work at Oklahoma State University.
Lorene M. Wehling age 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1964 died Saturday, September 17, 2011 after a short illness. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Patrick L. Wehling; children, Pat Wehling, Jr. and wife, Ruth Anne, Mary Pedersen and husband, Dennis, Joe Wehling and wife, Debra, Chris Wehling, and Matt Wehling; four grandchildren, Jessica, Luke, Emma and Alice; step-granddaughter, Shayla Heavner; sister, Carlene Sanders and husband, Marvin; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Fred H. and Veronica M.
