Funeral Mass for Helen Elizabeth Powers, 92, of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012 at the Holy Name Catholic Church. Helen Elizabeth Powers was born Sept. 20, 1919 in Chickasha, the daughter of William Patrick and Mary Fauntleroy (Downey) Sullivan. She died Jan. 3, 2012 in Oklahoma City. She and John Semion Powers were married Aug. 3, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1949. Helen graduated from Oklahoma College for Women and received her Masters Degree from Oklahoma University. She taught kindergarten at St. Joseph Academy until 1958.

LONG, Donna (Kitchens)

Mrs. Donna Kaye (Kitchens) (Austin) Long, 78, of Norman, passed away at home Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011. Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Havenbrook Funeral Home chapel. Kaye was born in Chickasha on Oct. 17, 1933. She received a bachelors degree in education at Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha and her masters degree from OU in education administration.

HARRIS, Avis W. (Williams)

Avis Williams Harris died January 2, 2012, in Oklahoma City at the age of 100. She was born on July 16, 1911 in Fletcher, Oklahoma to Joel and Laura Williams. After graduating from Fletcher High School in 1929, she attended the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. While in Chickasha, she met Haskell Harris and they were married in December of 1930. They were married for 71 years until Haskell's death in 2002. Avis devoted her life to her family and her church. She was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church and Quail Springs Baptist Church.

Late layup gives Drovers the win

CHICKASHA – The season may very well be turning around for the Drover women, who earned another conference win in front of a home crowd in Saturday afternoon's contest against Saint Gregory's.

The women trailed most of the first half, but entered halftime up by six. Coming out fierce, the Drovers maintained a lead for most of the remainder of the game.

Second half makes the difference in Saturday win

CHICKASHA — The Drover men delivered yet another home win on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Saint Gregory's Cavaliers at home despite a rough start.

The Drovers trailed the entire first half before forcing a tie less than a minute before halftime. The Drovers took their first lead of the game a few minutes into the second half, a lead they maintained — except for three ties — all but once.

USAO’s last nine points of the game came off free throws. The Drovers won the game 66-60.

Information meeting for Italy and UK trips scheduled for Jan. 26

Italy and the United Kingdom await for two groups of travelers headed out from the University of Science of Arts next Spring. Interested parties are invited to attend an informational meeting about the trips being held at 7 p.m. in Davis Hall 124 on the USAO’s campus on Jan. 26.

CHICKASHA – Two USAO faculty members, Dr. Brenda Brown, professor of English and Dr. Stephen Weber, professor of music will be leading educational tours to Italy and the United Kingdom respectively.
