CHICKASHA – Two weeks before classes begin, USAO soccer players stepped foot on campus and have been focusing on fitness and tactical work in daily workouts to prepare for the big opening of the 2012 season.

“The kids have worked very hard for the last 10 or 12 days, and we’ll continue to work hard,” Head Coach Jimmy Hampton said. “The kids are excited to be here and they have a good attitude.”

Hampton said the Drover women looked good in preseason games, partially because the strong leaders who have emerged.

2012: Poolaw came out his freshman season as one of USAO’s fastest runners. He set a personal record in the final race of the season — the SAC Championship — finishing 8-kilometers in 30:10. That time puts him second in school history.

High School: Attending Anadarko High School, Poolaw was a 4A state meet qualifier.

Deborah Park

2012: Park came out to become one of the Drovers’ top runners as a freshman. She ran her fastest 5-kilometer race in late October, finishing in 21:38.

High School: Park ran cross country for Oklahoma Bible Academy in Enid, where she was named All-Region and Tonkawa Team Championship in 2011.

Advice to Freshmen: Try hard in everything you do.

Charity Trammell

High School: Trammell attended Pauls Valley High School before college. In high school, her team earned two regional championships in track. In addition to her team honors, she was a two-time state qualifier in cross country.

Brittney DeWitt

2012: Dewitt competed in two races early in the season before sustaining a knee injury. Her fastest time was in the first race, finishing the 5-kilometer race in 26:21.

High School: At Tuttle High School, Dewitt was named 2012 State Academic Champion for 4A schools.

Major: Sociology

Interesting Fact: Does not like "thanksgiving" food.
