SHAWNEE, Okla. – In a nail biter in the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament, the fourth-seeded Drovers came out on top of fifth-seeded Lubbock Christian 66-63 at Oklahoma Baptist’s Noble Complex in Shawnee.

“It was a good win. I knew it would be a tough game,” Head Coach Brisco McPherson said. “We did enough to pull it out, and we’ll play tomorrow and see how that goes.”

CHICKASHA – As the women’s basketball season at USAO winds down, the Drover coaches are looking heavily at recruits and focusing on off-season preparations, said assistant coach Leandra Johnson.

With seven seniors leaving, Johnson said they are directing their efforts on athletes coming out of two-year schools to bring in maturity.

“We are going to be looking for a lot of junior college transfers and then we will pick up some freshmen,” she said.

Dr. Sandra Mayfield (left), Lyle Novinski (center) and Dr. Michael Thompson will join keynote speaker Dr. Elaine Pagels for a panel discussion on the relationship between Christianity and art as part of the 2013. Emerson-Wier Liberal Arts Symposium. The panel is scheduled to convene at 2 p.m. in the USAO Ballroom on March 7

Since early humans first began to capture their impressions of the world around them in charcoal on the walls of caves, the urge to create art has been bound up in religious and spiritual impulses.

Though modern art addresses secular interests more than in times past, the history of art — whether painting, literature, poetry or music — has been woven into the history of religion.

Four scholars will come together for a panel discussion about the role of Christianity in history and art beginning at 2 p.m. on March 7 in the USAO Ballroom as part of the 7th Annual Emerson-Wier Liberal Arts Symposium at the University of Science and Arts.

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Despite a season-high performance by one player and 22 points by another, the Drovers couldn’t overcome Mid-America Christian in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament and fell 69-64.

“I thought our second half effort was much better. I thought we came out fairly sluggish in the first half,” Head Coach Jennifer Hayden said. “We had difficulty connecting from the three-point line, and that’s a big part of our game.”
