CHICKASHA – After a three-hitter against the No. 19 team in the country, USAO’s Chris Fischer was named Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Against Oklahoma Baptist on Sunday, Fischer (4-3) threw a complete game, allowing just three hits and walking just two batters. In the win, Fischer didn’t permit any earned runs.

In the game, he threw 10 strikeouts, which matches his season high set in early March against Hillsdale Freewill Baptist College.

CHICKASHA – USAO split in another conference series over the weekend, taking two from (19) Oklahoma Baptist.

In the Sunday afternoon doubleheader at Bill Smith Ballpark, the Drovers (34-16) won the first game before falling in the second.

The Drovers came out strong in the first inning of the day. After three quick outs in the top of the inning, the Drovers’ third batter, Heath Wilda, hit two-run homer to bring home Jared Coon, who had doubled the previous at bat.

In the Saddle — Zach Gonzalez

Date Published:
Zach Gonzalez

CHICKASHA – From solid hitting to great catches at first base, Zach Gonzalez has been a crucial part to the Drover baseball program for the last two seasons. In fact, he may be best known for his sliding splits first.

“In junior high, I just went out to try to get somebody out, and I just happened to be in the splits. Every since then, I just go out there and try to look good doing it,” he said with a laugh.

The Drovers are 32-14 going into two final Sooner Athletic Conference series, including one against No. 19 Oklahoma Baptist.
