Drovers enter SAC Tournament fourth

CHICKASHA – With the regular season wrapped up, the Drovers enter the Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament as fourth seed.

“I’m pretty happy we got the fourth seed. It’s only the second time we finished the top four, so we are pretty happy,” head coach Mike Ross said.

The Drovers entered the conference picked to finish fifth.

The round-robin style tournament spans four days, with the first set of games on Wednesday and the SAC Championship game set for Saturday afternoon.

CHICKASHA – The Drover baseball team set the school’s wins record as well as an individual hitting and appearances records in Sunday’s final regular season doubleheader against Mid-America Christian.

Collecting two more wins, the Drovers (38-16) set the school record for most wins in a season. In 2009, the Drovers had a record of 37-14.

Left fielder Jared Coon, who had three hits and scored three runs on Sunday, now tops USAO record books in most hits in a season with 73. The record, which was previously 72, was set in 1999 by Hayden Herrin.

USAO athlete reaches out through running

CHICKASHA- Whether for fitness, weight loss or the challenge, running is a part of every athlete’s life. Inspired by the medical challenges facing the infant daughter of a dear friend, USAO’s Scott Parkinson hopes to turn running into something personal that can transform her life.

Parkinson, a soccer senior at USAO and Chickasha High School’s boys soccer coach, is running Sunday’s Oklahoma City Memorial Half-Marathon to help raise money to offset the cost of delivering life-saving treatments to his friend’s daughter.

Donne Nel Green, 86, died Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at her home in Muskogee. Born in Lee's Summit, Missouri, on October 5, 1926, she was the daughter of Fred and Jewel Baker. She attended school in Madill and Frederick, Oklahoma, and graduated from Oklahoma College for Women, (OCW) Chickasha, in 1947 with a B. A. in mathematics. Following graduation, she was employed at the Oklahoma State Department of Health in Oklahoma City. She and Dr. James Lanis Green, Jr. were married October 21, 1950, in Oklahoma City.

Mary “Frances” Jones, 70, of Amarillo died Sunday, April 7, 2013. Celebration of life services will be at 2 p.m Thursday in Craig Methodist Retirement Center Chapel in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Frances was born April 20, 1942, in Quanah to Hattie Isaacks Jones and Green Webster Jones. She was raised in Eldorado, Okla., where she graduated as valedictorian from Eldorado High School with numerous academic scholarships.
