The Bill and Pat Smith Scholar-Athlete Scholarship Award seeks to recognize and honor students who excel in combining scholastic and athletic achievement while studying and competing at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The award also aims to inspire future generations of student-athletes to achieve high standards in scholarship, sportsmanship, and citizenship.
Local children are invited to register for swimming lessons this summer at USAO’s indoor pool. Lessons are $45 per student, and enrollment runs May 30 and 31. Students can pick from four two-week programs running throughout June and July. Lessons are instructed by Dr. Nancy Osborn, professor of physical education, shown in back.

Virginia Frances Martin Purswell Virginia Frances Martin Purswell, 89, of Lawrenceville, GA, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2013. She died with the same courage and grace with which she lived, surrounded by family at her home. The funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Mt. Carmel Christian Church in Stone Mountain, Georgia. Art Stansberry will be officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the funeral from 1:00-3:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta.
CHICKASHA – The Drover baseball season, complete with broken records and national tournament invite, turned out to be the best season in school history, something Assistant Coach Sam Hayden was excited to see his first season back at the university.
“The season was unbelievable. From the start of the fall, we knew what kind of team we had,” Hayden said. “They were ready to go from the very beginning until the very end, so it was an unbelievable season, unbelievable group of guys. It was something very special.”
