CHICKASHA – The Drovers wanted to come out strong in the 2013 season opener, and they did nothing shy of that. It would also turn out to be a record-breaking effort for junior goalkeeper Bryan Byars.
With the 3-0 victory against the University of Houston-Victoria, Byars sets the USAO record for most shutouts in a career. This shutout was his 22nd for the three-year starter, beating the old record holder, assistant coach Alexis Vizarelis.
Byars ended up with four saves as the Drover defense held the Jaguars in line for the whole day.
CHICKASHA – Coach Jimmy Hampton has led the Drovers since soccer began and have brought both programs to top-notch teams that are recognized nationally — and this year is no exception.
The men, who were picked to top the Sooner Athletic Conference and start the season ranked in the Top 10 in the NAIA, Hampton said he thought their performance in a preseason scrimmage against a Top 15 team a great start.
CHICKASHA – Home athletic events at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma will become more accessible to parents and out-of-town fans this year as the Drovers will host live stream video of home games, USAO sports information office and the athletic department announced Wednesday.
Games will have live video streaming in real time along with live stats, a convenience USAO added in 2010. To see both, click on the “Live Stats and Broadcast” link on USAO’s sports website, usao.edu/sports.
