CHICKASHA – Head Coach Jennifer Hayden is expecting big things out of her young team in her second season with the Drover women’s basketball team.

“We are looking forward to a good season. We have four returning seniors and several new faces,” Hayden said. “We want to be competitive and put ourselves in a position to win games.”

The Drovers are returning just one starting player from last year who will see time on the court. Senior Ndeye “Tata” Ngom sustained a knee injury before in preseason and will not be able to play.

CHICKASHA – Nearing an end to the Drovers second season of cross country, freshman Elias Poolaw said the team, riddled with injuries, is just taking it one step at a time.

“The season’s been going good,” he said. “We’ve been taking it a meet at a time, and just taking it here and there.”

In Poolaw’s most recent race, he set a personal best, beating out his previous 8-kilometer time by just seconds. He said the reason had a lot to do with how familiar he was with the course.

CHICKASHA– USAO and NCAA Division II Northwestern Oklahoma State battled back in forth until the clock hit 00:00 in the Drovers’ season opener on Wednesday night in Alva.

The Drovers (0-1) and Rangers had a tale of two halves as USAO won the first half, and NWOSU chipped the Drovers lead and end up with the 80-77 advantage.

Shavon Scott, senior from Milwaukee, Wis., led the team with 17 points and was 5-for-14 shooting on the night. Scott went 4-for-4 from the foul line and contributed three 3-pointers in the game.

CHICKASHA – A brand new season brings new excitement — and new expectations — for the Drover men’s basketball team while they transition with new coaches and a handful of newcomers.

Former assistant Vinson Metcalf took over the program this summer and is looking forward to his first season at the helm.

“My expectation is for us to be competitive and see what happens after that,” he said.

To help him lead the Drovers to success, Metcalf found assistant coach Chris Francis, a former Roger State starter and assistant at LSU-Shreveport.
