Drovers enter SAC Tournament fourth seed

CHICKASHA – Entering post-season with one of the best records in school history, the Drover softball team is hopeful a powerful run in the tournament could keep their post-season dreams alive.

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (36-22) enters the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament as fourth seed, which is where SAC coaches picked USAO to finish in their annual pre-season polls.

CHICKASHA – The Drovers struggled on Tuesday night in the team’s regular-season closer, dropping twice on the road at Oklahoma City, a team that is tied for 17th in the NAIA’s most recent poll.

The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (36-22, 18-14) will look to bounce back in the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament, which is scheduled to begin on Thursday.

In the first game, OCU (45-11, 25-7) scored two runs in the second inning and then found a rhythm, scoring nine runs in the third to put the game out of reach for the Drovers, who dropped 11-0.

CHICKASHA – The fifth-seeded Drovers are now looking to continue some strong performances in post-season as they enter the Sooner Athletic Conference tournament this weekend.

The round-robin style tournament spans four days, with each team competing in a game Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The team with the highest tournament record from each pool will compete in the SAC Championship on Monday afternoon at OCU.

Wescott named SAC Baseball Player of the Week

CHICKASHA– An impressive offensive showing from senior Ryan Wescott is what led to him being chosen as the Sooner Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week of April 21-27.

In the week’s three games, which the Drovers went a perfect 3-0 against Southwestern Christian, Wescott had a batting average of .643 (9-for-14) with two home runs and 10 RBIs on the weekend.

Five of those runs batted in came in one game when he used two timely hits, including a three run homer in the first inning of the second game of the doubleheader.

Baseball seniors lead offensive explosion to sweep

CHICKASHA – A combined 37 runs came for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (25-20, 15-12) in its Senior Day to get the season sweep of Southwestern Christian (8-46, 3-24).

In game one, USAO grabbed a 22-1 win, while in the second game the Drovers notched the 16-2 victory to claim win No. 25 on the season.

In the first game, senior Warren Stehn went 2-for-4 and batted in five runs, three of them coming in the bottom of the sixth on a homer that went to straight left center and scored one of his two runs on the game.

Softball seniors help lead to SCU sweep

CHICKASHA – The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (36-20, 18-12) had no trouble taking on the Southwestern Christian Eagles (16-33, 6-26) in the Drovers’ annual Senior Day on Saturday at Bill Smith Ballpark.

Both games ended after five innings thanks to softball’s mercy rule. The Drovers shut out in the Eagles 8-0 in the first game before taking game two 9-1. The Drovers have now won 13 of their last 14 games.

USAO athletes cross stage in spring graduation

CHICKASHA – Student-athletes at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma understand that the student-first aspect of their role as a student-athlete, which is why each commencement ceremony sees Drover athletes graduate on to bigger and better things.

In all, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma conferred 116 degrees in Friday’s two graduation ceremonies. Seventeen of those graduates have ties with Drover athletics.

Drovers dominate Eagles

OKLAHOMA CITY – An all around performance for offense and pitching led to the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (23-20, 13-12) dominating Southwestern Christian (8-44, 3-22) with a 23-5 final in a single game on Thursday afternoon.

It was two big innings – the fourth and the fifth - that saw the Drovers grab 18 of their 23 runs to show the Drovers offensive side. Chris Musick was the big bat as he reached base all five times he came to the plate.

CHICKASHA – As the regular season winds down with just a few more games left, the Drover softball team (34-20) is looking to continue a winning streak and finish the season on a high note — a goal especially important to the seniors.

USAO’s annual Senior Day will be Saturday against Southwestern Christian. Senior Day festivities to honor the Drovers’ four seniors, will take place at 11:45 a.m. before the start of the home doubleheader.
