Steve Brown Professor of Art
Steve Brown is the Professor of Art for the Division of Arts and Humanities at USAO. He has been a member of the USAO faculty since 1980.
Before USAO, he was an assistant professor of art at the Universidad de las Americas in Puebla, Mexico; and a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Ohio. Brown’s work has been featured in art shows and competitions across the United States where he has won awards at the international, national and regional level. The Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition awarded Mr. Brown its coveted Award of Excellence in 2002 for artist of the year in Oklahoma. He has been published in several national photography and art magazines. Many of Brown’s students also have been featured in national publications and shows. He has been referenced in “Who’s Who in the World,” “Who’s Who in America” and “Who’s Who in America – South and Southwest.” He was awarded the Certification of Achievement, Lead Technology Teacher from the Southwest Regional Education Consortium and the Oklahoma Department of Education.
Brown has served as a trustee for the USAO Foundation, as an advisory panel member for the Oklahoma State Arts Council and received three faculty research grants from USAO. He has participated many times in the Oklahoma Fall Arts Institute – winning grants and scholarships from USAO and the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. He has served as a member of the board of directors of the Washita Valley Arts Council. Brown has commissioned work throughout Oklahoma that includes leaded windows, stained glass windows, digital photography, silkscreens, graphic design, graphic art and color illustrations.
