Cylathia Daniel
Assistant Professor of Deaf EducationBiography
Dr. Cylathia Daniel has lifetime Texas teaching certifications in deaf education, generic special education, visual impairment and early childhood education. She is a member of the Council for Exceptional Children.
Before coming to USAO in 2009, Daniel worked with Daybreak Group Homes; as a research assistant with Texas Tech University; as a teacher of pre-school children with disabilities at Foster Marine Base in Okinawa, Japan; as a teacher in Lubbock, Texas; Snyder, Texas and Meade, Kansas.
Her research has included Technology Preferences of Deaf Adults in Texas and Technology Use by Adult Listserv Users Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in the United States: A Mixed Methods Study. Daniel says her future research interests include the main factors related to teacher burnout in low-incidence fields, preparation in special education cross training for regular education, and technology use in school age children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Daniel has made in-service presentations that include Introduction of Students With Deafness to a Regular Campus; How to Use an Interpreter in a Regular Education Classroom: Teachers, Paraprofessionals, Administration and Parents; Introduction of Students with Deafness/Fetal Alcohol Syndrome/Cerebral Palsy to a Regular Education Campus, and various brief presentations concerning parents and students involved in Autism Spectrum Disorder or Severe Cognitive Challenges.
