Biography

While most of his connections are in the major studios in Nashville, Joe Settlemires' real expertise is in Jazz and Western Swing music.   His new CD – released in spring 2006 – is entitled “Canadian Sunset and Other Jazz Standards.”  It’s available at the USAO Bookstore and metro bookstores.

At USAO, Settlemires and his wife, Donna, together direct the USAO Showband, which travels Oklahoma and Texas with a unique blend of pop, jazz and country, crafted with his unique Western Swing sound.

During four decades in the music business, Settlemires has performed with numerous celebrities including Ray Price, Willie Nelson, Della Reese, Bob Hope, and the Oklahoma City Philharmonic.  He has been inducted into three Halls of Fame for his contributions to Western Swing. Recently he was the Headliner at the International Musicians Union in Las Vegas. In conjunction with the current trends of the “new country” sound in Nashville, he headlined the “Country-Fusion” Music Festival at southwest Oklahoma in 2003.

Settlemires is a leader in the American Federation of Musicians-Local for Southwest Oklahoma and West Texas, and has served in leadership roles for the Southern Conference of the AFM, covering 18 states.
