John Dexter MarbleVice President for Academic Affairs
Dexter Marble came out of retirement in 2010 to join the USAO staff and become the Special Assistant to the President before assuming the role of Vice President for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Marble's experience with USAO dates back to 1972 when he joined the faculty in the department of history. He taught at the university for 25 years, serving as a Professor of History, Assistant Basketball Coach, Chairman of the Department of Social Science, Faculty Coordinator of Scholar-Leadership Enrichment Program, Chairman of the Core Education Revision Committee and the Chairman of the USAO Self-Study Steering Committee. He originated the USAO Europe Tour, served as a commencement speaker, sponsored the USAO Model United Nations and earned the USAO Superior Teaching Award twice. Throughout his teaching tenure at USAO, Dr. Marble taught in the interdisciplinary liberal arts core program required of all students.
He was a board member of the USAO Foundation from 1997 through 2004 and served as Chairman of the Foundation in 2002-2003.
After he left USAO in 1997, Dr. Marble spent a decade as an attorney. His practice concentrated on insurance defense and litigation. He also represented death row inmates in Federal habeas corpus proceedings. He retired from the practice of law in 2007.
He was a member of the American Bar Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association from 1988-2008. He is currently a board member of Chamber Music of Oklahoma.
He and his wife, Sarah, have two children. His outside interests include the golf and the piano.
