Student Scholarships 2014-2015

NEW FRESHMEN

All incoming freshmen who complete the admissions application will be reviewed for scholarship eligibility.  All scholarships are competitive and may change annually depending upon scholarship funding availability and other institutional factors.  Six semester transcripts and ACT/SAT scores are required.   Notices are sent out to students who qualify for freshmen scholarships beginning in March.  Please note that students may only receive one academic or talent scholarship unless otherwise noted.  Freshmen receiving a one-year scholarship are encouraged to apply each spring for Foundation Scholarships available to continuing students.  Students must be enrolled full-time and be pursuing a degree program. 

 

Academic Scholars Program (Priority date: February 10)

Students automatically qualify for the Academic Scholars Program by being named a Presi­dential Scholar by the U.S. Department of Education, a National Merit Scholar or National Merit Finalist, or by scoring in the 99th percentile on a National ACT. Student will apply directly to the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. In addition to automatic qualifiers, three additional Academic Scholars may be selected each year by institutional nomination. The recipients of these three scholarships must meet at least one of the following requirements: 1) have a National ACT composite score of 30 or the SAT equivalent and a 3.5 GPA, or 2) have a GPA of 3.8 on a 4.00 scale or higher and rank in the top 4% of their high school class. Student will apply through the USAO admissions application.

These are four year scholarships maintained with a graduation retention GPA of 3.25. Completion of 24 hours minimum each academic year is also required. Scholarship covers tuition, basic fees, room and meal plan (if dependent and living on campus). The room waiver is a double occupancy room in Sparks Hall or the equivalent amount towards an apartment in Lawson Court. The meal plan is the 225 meals, or one of lesser value.  Scholarship amount dependent upon enrollment status and final financial aid package. 

Estimated Value: $6,300 - $11,000 per year

 

Regent’s Baccalaureate Scholarship (Priority date: February 10)

This four-year scholarship is awarded to high school seniors having a National ACT score of at least 30 and an exceptional high school GPA and rank (Preference given to 3.50 GPA and higher). Must be an Oklahoma resident. Recipients of this scholarship must maintain a graduation retention GPA of 3.25 and complete 24 hours each academic year to maintain the scholarship.

Scholarship covers tuition, basic fees, room and meal plan (if dependent and living on campus). The room waiver is a double occupancy room in Sparks Hall or the equivalent amount towards an apartment in Lawson Court. The meal plan is the 225 meals or one of lesser value.  Scholarship amount dependent upon enrollment status and final financial aid package.

President’s Leadership Council Scholarship (Deadline: February 10, 2014)

Four-year scholarship awarded to high school seniors having a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and a composite ACT score of 24. Must be an Oklahoma resident. A separate application is required for this scholarship (a link to the application will soon be available below). Recipients must maintain contract requirements (GPA, attendance, leadership positions, participation, etc.) for renewal each year. Applications and supporting documents must be received in the Financial Aid Office on or before February 10, 2014 to be considered. No exceptions. Scholarship is a tuition waiver of $3,000 and a room waiver for a double occupancy room in Sparks Hall or the equivalent amount towards an apartment in Lawson Court.

Now Room Scholarship (Priority Date: February 10)

Four-year scholarship awarded to high school seniors having a GPA of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale and ACT score of 19 or higher.  Not limited to Oklahoma residents, but must be a U.S. Citizen.  This is a partial room scholarship that can be applied to either Sparks Resident Hall or Lawson Court Apartments, so students must live on campus to receive the scholarship.  The scholarship is renewable for 3 years with maintenance of a 2.75 GPA and may be stacked with other institutional scholarships.  Scholarships are limited and selective.

Estimated value:  $2,500 per year

 

Drover Academic Scholarship

Available to high school seniors having a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and a composite ACT score of 27 or higher. This is a one-year scholarship. Oklahoma residency is required. Scholarship is a tuition waiver.

Estimated value: $3,000

 

University Scholarship

Available to high school seniors having a GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and a composite ACT score of 24 or higher. This is a one-year scholarship. Oklahoma residency is required. Scholarship is a tuition waiver.

Estimated value: $2,800

 

Green & Gold Scholarship

Available to high school seniors having a GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and a composite ACT score of 22 or higher. This is a one-year scholarship. Oklahoma residency is required. Scholarship is a tuition waiver.

Talent Plus Scholarship

Given for talent in Art, Drama, and Music. Available to high school seniors having a GPA of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and a composite ACT score of 24 or higher. This is a one-year scholar­ship.  Oklahoma residency is required. A demonstration of talent is required through an audition, portfolio review, etc. Scholarship is a tuition waiver.

Talent Scholarship

Spirit Squad Scholarships

Auditions are required. Scholarships are tuition waivers for one year. Amounts will vary based on available funding.

 

Athletic Scholarships

Athletic scholarships are awarded through the athletic department.

 

Fast Track Scholarship

The Fast Track Scholarship is a tuition waiver for the independent study and/or summer term available to any Oklahoma resident who is a graduate of an Oklahoma high school and enters USAO as a beginning first-year student (earning a minimum of 12 hours each trimester). Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours during the independent study and/or summer term to qualify. The scholarship waives tuition up to 14 credit hours. The scholarship will be available for a total of three consecutive years if the student makes satisfactory academic progress and remains in continuous, full-time attendance.

Estimated value: $2,156 per summer term

 

High School Concurrent Student Tuition Waiver

This scholarship is a tuition waiver for high school seniors who are admitted under the Concurrent Admissions Policy requirements. The scholarship waives tuition for up to 6 credit hours each term.

 

CONTINUING STUDENTS

Foundation  Scholarships (Priority Date: April 1)

All students who have been attending USAO are encouraged to apply annually for schol­arships funded by the USAO Foundation. The Foundation has a significant number of scholarships for continuing full-time students given in consideration of a variety of criteria. Most scholarships require full-time enrollment status and a minimum 3.00 GPA. Continuing students wishing to apply for Foundation Scholarships need to complete the Scholarship Application for Continuing Students.  For 2014-2015, the scholarship application is part of the online Financial Aid Office Update form.  Be sure to indicate that you wish to be considered for USAO Foundation Scholarships on this form and provide a brief description of yourself in the appropriate section, or provide a resume.  Paper forms are also available at the Financial Aid Office in Troutt Hall 112.

TRANSFER STUDENTS

All-Oklahoma Academic Team Scholarships (Priority Date: June 1)

Two full-tuition waivers awarded to Oklahoma students who are recognized as members of the All-Oklahoma Academic Team at two-year colleges in Oklahoma and have a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale. This two year scholarship is renewable with a 3.00 cumulative GPA. Complete final college transcripts, resume, and proof of recognition are required in addition to the admissions ap­plication. Scholarship is a tuition waiver.

Estimated value: $3,300 - $5,000 per year

 

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship (Priority Date: June 1)

Two full-tuition waivers awarded to Oklahoma students who are Phi Theta Kappa members; have completed an associate’s degree; show academic excellence, leadership service and campus involvement. This is a one-year scholarship. The scholarship is highly selective and competitive. Complete final college transcripts and resume required in addition to the admissions application. Scholarship is a tuition waiver.

Transfer Scholarship (Priority Date: June 1)

Available to Oklahoma students transferring to USAO. Student must have a 3.00 GPA and be making satisfactory academic progress. Full academic transcripts from all prior colleges required with admissions application. Awards are competitive and values range according to academic profile. The scholarship is a tuition waiver for one year only.

Estimated value: $400 - $1,500

 

NON-RESIDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Superior Scholar Award (Priority Date:  February 10)

This four-year scholarship is awarded to high school seniors having a National ACT score of at least 30 and an exceptional high school GPA and rank (Preference given to 3.50 GPA and higher).  Recipients of this scholarship must maintain a graduation retention GPA of 3.25 and complete 24 hours each academic year to maintain the scholarship.  This scholarship is for non-resident students who are U.S. Citizens.

Scholarship covers non-resident and regular tuition, fees, room and meal plan (if dependent and living on campus). The room waiver is a double occupancy room in Sparks Hall or the equivalent amount towards an apartment in Lawson Court. The meal plan is the 225 meals or one of lesser value.  Scholarship amount dependent upon enrollment status and final financial aid package.

Welcome to Oklahoma Scholarship

This four-year scholarship waives the additional non-resident tuition for students who are U.S. Citizens whose primary residence is outside of Oklahoma. First-time freshman eligibility requires at least a 24 ACT or 1090 SAT, and a high school GPA of 3.00. Students must be full-time and degree-seeking. Maintenance requires a GPA of 2.75 and satisfactory academic progress. Transfer students are considered based on their academic profile from all college transcripts. Scholarship is a full waiver of non-resident tuition.

Estimated Value: $6,432 to $11,256 per year

 

Legacy Scholarship

This four-year scholarship waives the additional non-resident tuition for first-time freshmen students whose primary residence is outside of Oklahoma, are U.S. Citizens and are direct descendents (child or grandchild) of a USAO Alumni.  The student must be admitted under regular admissions, enrolled full-time and pursuing a degree.  Recipients of this scholarship must maintain a 2.00 GPA and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.  Eligibility for transfer students is based on their grade level according to the transcript history.

Estimated Value:  $6,432 to $11,256 per year

 

Out of State Tuition Waiver

This four-year scholarship waives some of the additional non-resident tuition for students who are U.S. Citizens whose primary residence is outside of Oklahoma, are admitted under regular admissions, and enrolled full-time. Recipients of this scholarship must maintain a 2.00 GPA and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. Continuing students who later earn a cumulative 2.75 GPA for their college work can be reviewed for the full non-resident tuition waiver. Eligibility for transfer students is based on their grade level according to the transcript history.

The scholarship will be awarded according to the following chart; however, the scholarship cannot exceed the actual amount of non-resident tuition charged to the student’s account.

Year 1 $2,200 fall / $2,200 spring

Year 2 $2,600 fall / $2,600 spring

Year 3 $2,900 fall / $2,900 spring

International Student Scholarship

This four-year scholarship waives some of the non-resident tuition for international students who are admitted under regular admissions and enroll full-time. Recipients of this scholar­ship must maintain a 2.00 GPA and meet Satisfactory Academic Progress. Eligibility for transfer students is based on their grade level according to their transcript history.  (International students who are on an athletics roster will be awarded through Athletics Scholarships.  This scholarship cannot be stacked with an athletics non-resident tuition waiver.)

The scholarship will be awarded according to the following chart; however, the scholarship cannot exceed the actual amount of non-resident tuition charged to the student’s account.
