Admissions:

Is there an application deadline?

No

How long does it take to process an application and when will the acceptance letter be mailed?

Once we receive all necessary documents, the acceptance letter will be mailed within 3 to 5 days.

Is an application fee required, and if so, how much?

There is no fee for an online application. The paper application is $40.00.

What is the average fall enrollment?

200-220

What credentials must be submitted to properly file an application?

Freshman

Are there talent scholarships available?

Yes, there are in the areas of music, art and theatre arts.

How do I apply for financial aid?

Each student who applies to USAO is automatically assessed for financial aid. FAFSA and other governmental supports are done via their websites.

When must an academic major be declared?

Students should declare a major no later than the 2nd semester of their sophomore year, before enrolling for the next semester, any later than this will result in the student not graduating on time. Those interested in science, music and art majors should declare immediately.

Does the college offer a tutorial service?

Yes. USAO’s Writing Center and Math Lab, both located on the third floor of Nash Library, employs student tutors dedicated to promoting the success of their peers. Both the Writing Center and Math Lab have extended hours in order to better suit the needs of students.

Will “D’s” transfer in from other colleges?

No

When can I visit your school?    

Appointments can be made any time to visit the campus and be given a tour.

Is there an Open House event?    

Yes, an open house is offered both in the Fall and Spring. Contact the Admissions Office for additional information.

Campus Life:

Do national fraternities and sororities exist?

USAO has one national fraternity (Phi Lambda Chi) and one local sorority chapters (Sigma Psi Omega).

Are students required to purchase a meal plan?

Yes, if they reside in campus housing.

Is there an infirmary or health facility on campus?  

Yes, students may come to health services located in the Nobbs Wellness Center, 2nd floor of the Student Center. Students may obtain over the counter medications, evaluation and treatment of injuries/illnesses. In addition, health services can facilitate further treatment/evaluation at local medical facilities.

What music groups exist?

Music ensemble participation is an important part of the student life at USAO. All ensembles are open to music majors, minors, and the general student population. Students may participate in Concert Choir, Concert Band, USAO Showband, USAO Key Players or the USAO Vocal Jazz Ensemble.  Periodically, additional ensembles such as Opera Scenes, Music Theatre, Madrigal Singers, or Chamber Music are offered.

What campus organizations emphasize religious activities?

There are three “Campus Ministry” organizations at USAO: Baptist Collegiate Ministries (BCM), The Green House Catholic Campus Ministry and Chi Alpha (XA), a campus ministry fraternity.

Name the residence halls and briefly describe each.

Lawson Court ApartmentsLawson Court Apartments is a garden style apartment community.

Each residence is furnished with living room, dining and bedroom furniture. Each residence also includes a full size kitchen.

Lawson Court also provides a clubhouse which boasts amenities such as, a lobby, laundry room, meeting areas, pool table, swimming pool, sand volleyball court, hair salon that includes tanning beds and movie theater.

Sparks HallThis quaint suite style residence hall contains fully furnished rooms. A lobby, laundry facility, movie room, community kitchen, computer lab, and air hockey are all available in Sparks.

Are freshmen permitted to live off campus?

With our Freshman Residency Requirement, all freshmen are required to live on campus during their first two semesters at USAO. Exemptions are available in the office of Student Services or the USAO website.

Athletics:

USAO plays in the NAIA conference. We compete in the Sooner Athletic Conference which is comprised of teams from Oklahoma, Arkansas and North Texas. USAO has the following sports:

General Questions:

What year was the college founded?

The college was founded in 1908 as a women's institution, the first college created by Oklahoma's first legislature. USAO is one of only seven state institutions with similar missions ever created in the United States. Located in Chickasha, USAO is the only Oklahoma college to be named a National Historic District on the National Register of Historic Places. Full school history
