Statewide Cyber Security Alert: HEADS UP - Email Mass Mailer Worm
This notice is intended for all state entities as a warning to watch out for a specific Email threat.
As noted in the message below from the Multi-State Information Sharing Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), there is a "mass mailer worm" going around that needs to be avoided.
Please let all your staff know "not to open" any message with subject line of: "Here You Have"
The message appears to include a link that looks like a "pdf document", but it is actually the mass mailer worm.
If possible, quarantine any email with the subject line "Here You Have".
Also, since this is a mass mailer worm, the message could appear to come from a known or recognizable source, which is why it is necessary to avoid all messages with a Subject line containing "Here You Have".
We have had reports that the worm may be able to change its appearance and therefore be difficult to remove or clean with antivirus tools.
Also, as noted below, if you use the principle of least privilege and do not use privileged (administrator) accounts to read email or perform other routine functions, you can limit the impact and scope of any potential infections.
We will let you know about further developments.
