Sylvia Marlene DeHart was born on March 24, 1936, to Mildred and Clyde DeHart in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Sylvia grew up attending First Baptist Church, Chickasha. She loved music, especially piano and voice, from a very early age. During her high school days, Sylvia sang in a popular trio called The Mellowtones. They frequently performed at local events, including brush arbor revivals with several young preachers. Sylvia and Dwain were childhood acquaintances. They started dating when Sylvia was a junior in high school and Dwain was a senior.
Funeral services for Margaret Belle "Marge" Godlove Mitchell, 99, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2012, at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Hawkins, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Mitchell celebrated her 99th birthday by going to be with her Heavenly Father and her best friend and husband. She died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, at her residence after a brief illness. Funeral for former Lawton resident Geneva Aline Anderson Newby, 92, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Lawton Heights United Methodist Church with retired chaplain Col. Jack N. Anderson, Frederick, Md., and the Rev. Michelle D. McCarty, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Newby died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, in Tulsa. Helen Patricia (Foreman) Raines, age 88, was born December 30, 1923 in Estella, Oklahoma on her parents farm and passed away on January 28, 2012 in Tulsa. Her parents, Ray Foreman and Myrtle (Keithly) Foreman preceded her in death. Helen Pat, or H.P. as she was frequently called, was an only child. Her husband of 63 years, William Benjamin Raines, passed away May 5, 2007.
Our beloved husband, father and grandpa Harold Lowe Dowdle passed from the bonds of this earth during the night of Feb 3, 2012. He was in the 91st year of his life. He was born "in a barn" in Rigby, Idaho on May 7, 1920 to Robert Hazen and Lydia Belle Dowdle. He was always a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He served a mission as a young man to Argentina where he learned to love the Spanish language. Later in life he served another mission with his dear wife Ruth in Mauritius and La Reunion; islands in the Indian Ocean.
Prominent West Texas historian and author Cecilia Thompson of Marfa died Monday, Jan. 16, 2012, at Big Bend Regional Medical Center in Alpine after a brief illness. She was 91. A memorial will be held at a later date. Cecilia was born April 10, 1920, to Norma M. Thompson and Harold G. Thompson, a ranching family in Fort Davis. Her grandfather came to Far West Texas with the Gage family. Later, her grandfather moved his ranch ownership to the Fort Davis area. From early times, the family was involved in the formation of the county and of Marfa and Fort Davis.
Funeral service for William Bill Wallace, 64, of Chickasha, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012 at the First Christian Church. William Bill Wallace was born Aug. 1, 1947 in Chickasha, the son of L. Keith Wallace and Mabel (Burke) Wallace. He passed away Jan. 30, 2012 at his home west of Chickasha. Bill was raised in Chickasha and graduated from Chickasha High School in 1965. He received his B.S. in Elementary Education from USAO in 1971 and his M.S. in Elementary Administration from SWSU in 1974. He and Carol Priddle were married Aug. 27, 1966 in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Mary Elizabeth Steigleder, 89, of Duncan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at her home in Duncan. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 26, in First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Sue Trei-Conrad officiating. Interment will follow in Duncan Cemetery, under direction of Don Grantham Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Elizabeth was born Aug. 11, 1922, in Beggs, the daughter of R.L.A. and Nellie B. Humphreys Steigleder.
Josephine M. Garabato, 90, of Lakewood, WA, passed away peacefully in Manila on January 18, 2012. Born on October 7, 1921 in Botolon, Zambales Province, Philippines, she was a member and lecturer at St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Lakewood, and a retired elementary school teacher, having taught at Fort Lewis for over 35 years. She received a BS degree from Oklahoma College for Women, and a master's in Education from Pacific Lutheran University.

Hazel, age 89, passed away Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength and service to her community. Hazel was born Nov. 3, 1922, in the community of Barr, Okla., to Guy and Edith Long Bartlett. After attending grade school in Barr, she graduated from Drummond High School.
