Sign Language Club Hosts Public Deaf Panel

CHICKASHA – As part of Deaf Awareness Week, the American Sign Language Club is inviting the community to take part in a deaf discussion panel Sept. 28 on the University of Science and Arts campus. Six local speakers from varying backgrounds are expected to lead the panel at 7 p.m. in the Gary Hall lounge.

Dr. Tina Herring, assistant professor of deaf education, said the panel will help provide a look at the deaf experience and lifestyle.

USAO Presents Theatre, Concerts in Fall Lineup

CHICKASHA – When it comes to music and theatre, the University of Science and Arts is preparing for a myriad of events this fall. Multiple band and choir concerts, as well as a premiere opera and the semester’s first play, are slated for the fall’s performing arts agenda at USAO.

USAO Invites Community to Join Paris, Alps Trip

CHICKASHA – Ancient castles, world famous art collections and snowcapped mountains are just a few of the sights on the itinerary for an upcoming European tour. As one of several trips planned for next spring, the University of Science and Arts is extending an invitation to the community to join students and faculty for a tour of France, Germany and the Swiss Alps.

An informational meeting about the trip is open to the public Sept. 28 at 11 a.m. in Davis Hall 107.

‘Ceramic Showdown’ Sale Features Exotic Pottery

CHICKASHA – Zigzags, spiral patterns and smooth curves line the Davis Hall third floor art gallery in the form of ceramic sculptures currently on display at the University of Science and Arts. Through Oct. 13, a new art show exhibits colorful handmade vases, plates and cups swimming with a variety of patterns and textures. The pieces are being sold to the public to help support an artistic cause.

Campus Charities Seek Books, Women’s Clothing

CHICKASHA – Two college charities seeking donations for children and low-income women are calling on the community for support. Campus organizations Books for Tots and the Feminist Collective are seeking donations of children’s books and women’s clothing, respectively.

Enrollment Up 4.3 Percent at USAO; Financial Aid Grows to $8.2 Million

Fall enrollment is up by 4.3 percent at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma, which welcomed students from 26 states, 12 countries and 52 Oklahoma counties this fall, said USAO President John Feaver on Tuesday.

In its regular monthly meeting, the USAO Board of Regents welcomed new member Jack Mildren, authorized the renaming of the Main Auditorium, heard a report on financial aid trends, approved an alumni plan to renovate and occupy the Home Management House, and agreed to purchase property south of the campus.

USAO Announces Summer 2006 Honor Rolls

CHICKASHA – Nearly 300 students at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or greater during the summer 2006 semester and were named to the university’s honor rolls, USAO admissions officials have announced.

University records show 220 students were named to the USAO Honor Roll and 55 students were named to the Regents Honor Roll. Honor roll students represent five countries and 20 states.

Award-Winning Artist Exhibits Colorful Works at USAO

CHICKASHA – Thirteen years after earning an out-of-state education and traveling abroad, nationally renowned artist Kristy Lewis Andrew has returned to her Oklahoma roots. Beginning Sept. 10, her works will be on display at the University of Science and Arts in Chickasha.

Cecil Lee, regents professor of art and director of USAO’s Art Gallery, said Andrew is one of the state’s up-and-coming artists of note.

Chinese Acrobats Bring Wonder to USAO Stage

CHICKASHA – For more than 27 centuries, Chinese acrobats have been thrilling audiences worldwide with mesmerizing acts of daring and grace. And on Sept. 6, the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats will add Chickasha to their world tour.
