Three USAO Students Compete in Rule-Breaking Statewide Photo Contest

CHICKASHA – Three students from the University of Science and Arts recently proved they have what it takes to compete with Oklahoma’s best young photographers – and break all the rules of photography while doing it.

ShowBand Concert Set for December 1

Grammy award-winning country singer Jody Miller will share the stage with the USAO ShowBand for a blow-out concert Dec. 1. The ShowBand is known statewide for combining Motown hits with pop and jazz favorites. Special guests include pianist Ukie Hart and country trumpeter Mike Moore. The free concert is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium and is open to the public.

Sigma Tau Delta Honors Nine USAO Students

CHICKASHA – Nine students recently were inducted into Sigma Tau Delta, a national English Honor Society that made its debut on the University of Science and Arts campus in October.

The formation of the honor society’s new USAO chapter was initiated by several English students. Pocasset English junior Kily Richardson-Keeling contacted the national Sigma Tau Delta organization and instigated the chartering process.

USAO’s Student Newspaper Staff Makes National ‘Trend’ with Award

CHICKASHA – Eleven students at the University of Science and Arts received national attention when their student newspaper, “The Trend,” took third place at the National College Media Convention. USAO was the only Oklahoma college besides the University of Oklahoma to take home a prize at the annual nationwide convention in October.

Dr. J.C. Casey, professor of communication and advisor to “The Trend,” said she and the staff of student writers, designers and editors, were excited to receive state and national acclaim.

ShowBand Brings Motown, Country Show to USAO Dec. 1

CHICKASHA – Opportunity keeps knocking for the ShowBand at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. The 16 student members, who have been showcasing their musical skills throughout the state, are coming home to USAO for a final fall concert Dec. 1.

In true ShowBand fashion, they’re bringing guests. Grammy-award winning country singer Jody Miller, pianist Ukie Hart and country trumpeter Mike Moore will join the ShowBand for the free concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium.

Exciting Concert Scheduled Nov. 20 at USAO

The USAO Droverspirit Concert Band is joining forces with the new Key Players Synthesizer Ensemble for an exciting and eclectic concert Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium. Dr. Dan Hanson, professor of music and director of both ensembles, said the concert is packed with diverse music, including pop, funk, marches, rock classics and more. The concert is free and open to the public.

USAO Band, Key Players Display Musical Variety Nov. 20

CHICKASHA – If variety is the spice of life, then the University of Science and Arts is the spice rack of music. On Nov. 20, the university will showcase two of its top musical groups when the USAO Droverspirit Concert Band teams up with the new Key Players Synthesizer Ensemble for a night of free eclectic and energetic music.

The 7:30 p.m. concert, scheduled in the Te Ata Memorial Auditorium in Troutt Hall, is free and open to the public.

Psi Chi Honor Society Inducts Ten USAO Students

CHICKASHA – Ten students have joined the ranks of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in psychology, at the University of Science and Arts. At a special reception Nov. 13, the students joined faculty and family as each was inducted into the elite society.

Dr. Tina Winn, associate professor of psychology and chair of the division of business and social science, said the students deserve the recognition.

USAO’s PR Guy Takes State Communicator Award

CHICKASHA – Randy Talley may be one of the best public relations guys in the state – and that’s no spin. The director of media and community relations for the University of Science and Arts recently was named Communicator of the Year by two professional organizations holding a joint conference in Stillwater.

Talley was honored by the Oklahoma College Public Relations Association (OCPRA) and the State Communicators Council at a statewide forum Nov. 15 at Oklahoma State University.

Dark Storyteller Comes to Life in USAO’s ‘Pillowman’

CHICKASHA – A sinister storyteller is coming to Chickasha. On Nov. 17, the University of Science and Arts will bring Martin McDonagh's “The Pillowman” to stage.

Presented as a readers theatre production, the 8 p.m. drama tells the story of a writer whose gruesome stories of murders begin resembling actual events. Admission is $2 for the Davis Hall Little Theatre production.

The play is student directed by Tulsa drama senior DeeDee Beard, who said she was attracted to the story of the storyteller.
