USAO Nabs Tickets for Broadway Shows Starring David Hyde Pierce, Angela Lansbury

CHICKASHA – What do famous actors David Hyde Pierce and Angela Lansbury have in common? They’re each starring in runaway Broadway shows. As part of its annual spring New York City trip, the University of Science and Arts has secured tickets to “Curtains” starring Pierce and “Deuce” starring Lansbury, two of the hottest shows on Broadway.

State Collegiate Band Selects Four USAO Students

CHICKASHA – Each year, Oklahoma’s top 100 college student musicians are selected to perform in the All-Collegiate Honor Band. This year, four students from the University of Science and Arts made the cut, earning themselves a place of honor among their peers.

At an Oklahoma Music Educators Conference held in downtown Tulsa, the band showcased its statewide talent in January.

Dr. Stephen Weber, associate professor of music, was there for the performance.

CHICKASHA – Renaissance artwork and authentic cuisine may seem like Italy’s calling cards, but the University of Science and Arts is out to prove that it’s all just a portion of the entire Italian experience. In May, USAO is hosting its annual tour of Italy with an invitation that extends beyond the campus to the general public.

Students Raise Money, Awareness with V-Day Campaign

CHICKASHA – Although most people recognize Valentine’s Day as an opportunity to buy flowers and candy for loved ones, a global movement known as “V-Day” is spreading a different kind of message throughout February: violence against women and girls must be stopped.

As part of the national V-Day College Campaign, students at the University of Science and Arts are planning several events and activities designed to raise awareness and funds for the Grady County Women’s Service and Family Resource Center.

Futuristic Bach Quartet Rocks USAO Feb. 27

CHICKASHA – What if classical composer Johann Sebastian Bach traveled to the future and picked up an electronic keyboard? Jazz combo Bach to the Future will attempt to answer this question with their modern, electronic approach to classical music Feb. 27 at the University of Science and Arts.

USAO Students Named to State Honor Choir

CHICKASHA – Four singers from the University of Science and Arts recently received special acclaim when they were selected to perform with the All-Collegiate Honor Chorus in March.

USAO students Elizabeth Sellers, Danyele Oxford, Scott Pitts and Mark Schlasner were among 100 students chosen from Oklahoma colleges and universities to perform in the prestigious choir.

Dr. Jan Hanson, professor of music, said the students represent not only some of the best vocal talent of USAO, but the state in general.

Art Professor’s ‘Monument’ Photography Featured in State Capitol

CHICKASHA – What exactly is a monument? A structure built to honor an important historical figure? A statue? Steven Brown thinks of New Mexican saguaro cacti, New York skyscrapers and the landscapes that compose the very fabric of America itself. The photographer and professor at the University of Science and Arts recently was chosen by the Oklahoma Arts Council to display his original photographs in the State Capitol.

USAO Drama Fills ‘Two Rooms’ With Emotion, Suspense

CHICKASHA – Worlds collide and international tension mounts when the drama department unveils “Two Rooms” at the University of Science and Arts. The spring semester production hits the Davis Hall Theatre stage Feb. 8-10 at 8 p.m.
