It's the second largest continent on the Earth and contains 53 different countries. In those countries, there are at least 3,000 distinct ethnic groups and more than 2,000 languages spoken. On March 4-5, the USAO Symposium on Africa and the Festival of Arts and Ideas will present a snapshot of this diverse continent.

Spring Triad

As winter temperatures slowly surrender to spring sunshine, one of the premier April events at USAO -- the Spring Triad -- is taking registrations for two of its three events -- the high school Scholastic Meet and Droverstock.

Minerva Awards

Each year, USAO spotlights student achievement with the Honors Convocation and Minerva Awards ceremony. Nominations for seven of these awards are now open and the USAO Student Services Office needs students to nominate individuals and organizations to be spotlighted during the early April celebration.

A spontaneously dancing grandmother and the Ed Sullivan Show were two early influences on comedian Robert Post. Post brings his "riveting, eclectic and uproariously funny" Post Comedy Theatre to Chickasha Feb. 23 at 7:30 p.m. in Te Ata Memorial Auditorium on the USAO campus.

For the fifth year in a row, freshmen and seniors at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma have the opportunity to participate in a national survey in which they can rate the university on academic challenge, active learning and student-faculty interaction.

Regents approved limited fee increases on Feb. 9 that will affect most but not all students this fall at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma. Overall, the changes could raise a student’s bill for the fall term by about $75, officials said.

USAO Honor Rolls

More than 264 students at the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or greater during the fall 2009 semester and were named to the university’s honor rolls, USAO records officials have announced.

University records show 188 students were named to the USAO Honor Roll and 76 students were named to the Regents Honor Roll. Honor roll students represent seven countries and 11 states.
