Jazz ensemble to offer up tasty menu of classics Dec. 3
The USAO Vocal Jazz ensemble is busy putting the final touches on its yearly concert and banquet scheduled for Dec. 3 in the ballroom at the University of Science and Arts.
The ensemble will be serving up a buffet of its own, mixing jazz standards with pop classics and topped with a garnish of holiday music. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m. with the concert starting shortly after.
Admission to the banquet and concert is $25 for the general public including USAO faculty and staff. Student admission is $15 including the dinner.
The proceeds from the banquet will go towards the ensemble’s trip to New Orleans in April 2011. Members will be performing on the way at a number of colleges as well as in New Orleans itself. While in the city, the ensemble plans to attend the New Orleans Jazz Festival.
Dr. Ken Bohannon, associate professor of music at USAO, directs the ensemble.
“We are excited to bring this opportunity to enjoy some live entertainment here in Chickasha along with some fine dining from Sodexo food services,” said Bohannon.
“A dinner of this caliber would cost more than $25, so it’s a bargain no matter how you look at it.”
Music selections will include: Blue Skies, Bohemian Rhapsody, Triste, Muddy Water, Solitude, Someone to Watch Over Me, Bewitched andCarol of the Bells among others.
Singers include: Jerod Frizzell, Brett Pitts, Scott Pitts, Joshua Smith, Alex McCabe, Jesus Lugo, Crystal Davis, Katie Boyd, Christy Day, Amanda Whitchard, and Ashton House.
The choir will be accompanied by Rhenada Finch (keyboard), Glen Davis (bass) and Dr. Dan Hanson (drums).
The USAO Vocal Jazz Ensemble has delivered more than 25 performances in Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana and, most recently, on board the Ecstasy Carnival Cruise ship.
The general public is welcome to attend, free of charge with special seating to be made available for those not dining.
