Original Songs to be Featured in Aug. 3 Recital
Unique, entertaining, inspiring and even some provocative original songs will be featured as students at the University of Science and Arts present the first-ever Songwriter's Showcase Recital Aug. 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the Davis Hall Choir room (south door of Davis Hall) on the USAO campus.
The concert features select students from the Songwriting Workshop class offered semi-annually on campus. The performance is free and the public is invited. Dr. Dan Hanson, professor of music, teaches the course.
"Students from almost every major at USAO enjoyed a uniquely creative experience this summer in the class. Several student songwriters will sing and play piano or guitar, while others will demonstrate well-developed studio versions of their songs during the recital," Hanson said.
Twenty-seven students enrolled in the summer course, which is offered as an artistic expression credit at USAO. In order to graduate from the college, students are required to take two hours of artistic expression that can include a course in art, photography, music, drama or English.
"Several of the students in the class are very talented and have written some great songs. This will be a good time to come out and see what USAO students can achieve," Hanson said.
