USAO Alumni To Meet for Homecoming Nov. 6-8
Alums from across the nation will meet on the campus of the University of Science and Arts for the 2009 Alumni Homecoming Nov. 6-8. The reunion, Fast Forward to a New Century, is filled with many special events for alumni of the Oklahoma College for Women, Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts and USAO.
Events for the weekend include an awards luncheon for new USAO Alumni Hall of Fame inductees and the Young Alumni Award winner, a trio of alumni authors will be signing their books, a fashion exhibit and style show, an open house, an art show, a memorial service, dedications for alumni projects and distribution of alumni scholarships.
The annual alumni reunion is open to all USAO/OCLA/OCW alumni. Registrations are being accepted at the USAO Alumni Development Office, (405) 574-1290. An all-inclusive registration package is available for $50 per person, which includes all meals. Additional information is available online at www.usao.edu/alumni.
“Participation from alumni from all the eras of the college – USAO, OCLA and OCW – is so important in making this year’s homecoming celebration a success. The Alumni Association’s Homecoming Committee is working very hard to ensure we have great events and fun fellowship during the weekend,” said Julie Bohannon, director of alumni development.
The weekend kicks off Friday evening with the annual Green & Gold Scholarship Banquet at 6 p.m., followed by singing on the steps of Troutt Hall at 8:30 p.m.
Saturday’s events are launched at 9:30 a.m. with an open house at the Stevens Alumni House and dedication ceremony for the class of 1959 bench. Class photographs follow in the Student Center Ballroom at 11 a.m.
The annual Hall of Fame Luncheon begins at noon highlighting this year’s inductees -- Emma Jean Smith Stover and Dr. Vicki Easley. The luncheon also will honor Young Alumni Award winner Andrea Wood Brock.
From 4-6 p.m. alumni authors Ellen Taliaferro, Nancy Hector and Shanna Groves will be signing their books in the USAO Bookstore. In addition to alumni, the public is invited to the signing.
Participants will have an opportunity to visit the Bachelor of Fine Arts Art Show from 5-7 p.m. on the third floor of Davis Hall on Saturday and be a part of a fashion and style show, Tea Gowns to Maxi Skirts: Fashion at OCW, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Student Center Terrace Room.
The Homecoming weekend comes to a close as alumni join together Sunday at 9 a.m. to honor past friends and classmates during a memorial service in the USAO Alumni Chapel. Also scheduled is a dedication ceremony for the carillon system project by the class of 1956 at 10 a.m. and the Memorial Dove Release at 10:30 a.m.
