USAO's Dan Hanson Part of New Year's Eve Concert in Medicine Park

USAO's own Dr. Dan Hanson will join Chicago native Johnny Rogers and others for Rockin' New Year's Eve Dec. 31 from 9 p.m.-12:30 a.m.

Rockin' New Year's Eve will be at the Medicine Park Music Hall in Medicine Park just north of Lawton. Tickets for the show are $20 and available by calling 580-318-6262.

"Dan has performed with this show on several occasions in the last couple of years, both on drums and on keys -- but not at the same time," said Bruce McGrew of OK Music Show in Chickasha. "For this show, he will be on the keyboard."

The concert features Rogers, who specializes in a tribute to Buddy Holly and many other pioneers of rock and roll. He is endorsed by the Holly family and has been featured in Branson and rock and roll variety shows from Las Vegas to New York to London.

Hanson plays more than a dozen different musical instruments. In spring 2007, he earned the Regents Award for Superior Teaching. He was named twice to the Outstanding Young Men of America, twice to the Texas All-State Band and was a first prize winner of the Lubbock Music Composition Contest.

He has been a member of the faculty at USAO since 1988. He received his doctoral degree from North Texas State University and his bachelor's and master's degrees from Texas Tech University. In 2006, he launched the performing ensemble called The Key Players of USAO, a unique all-keyboard group that explores various musical styles and travels for public events. Hanson also directs the USAO Concert Band.

He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, Texas Music Educators Association, National Association of Jazz Educators, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Rotary International.

He produced orchestration for the World Premiere of "Suite for Flute and Piano," has performed in Japan and toured both Europe and Mexico.
