Barbara Lea Elliott

Barbara Lea Elliott passed away on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at her residence. She was born on November 21, 1930 in Ada, Oklahoma. She was married to Oscar F. Elliott, Jr. on June 3, 1951 in Healdton, Oklahoma, and has resided in Joplin all of her married life. She graduated high school in Healdton, and then attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and then the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. She was a member of Byers Avenue Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years and took part in the women's fellowship there. She cherished her Sunday school friends and all of her other brothers and sisters in Christ at her church. She was very thankful and appreciative for the loving care that she received from all of her caregivers during her declining health. Barbara was very talented in painting and doing crafts, and enjoyed flowers and gardening. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Mabel Upton, her husband, Oscar F. Elliott, Jr. in 2009, and her daughter, Brenda Elise Elliott in 2004. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Jeanette Newton of The Woodlands, Texas, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Ann Brown of Brazil, Indiana, and six nieces and nephews. Barbara will be missed by all who loved and knew her. Her wishes were to be cremated. There will be a Memorial Celebration of Barbara's life on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with visitation to follow. Her ashes will be buried in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date.
