BRANCH, Avanell (Camp)
FOX Services for Avanell Camp Branch, 82, will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2007, at Fox Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Johnston officiating. Interment will be in the Camp family cemetery.
Born on Dec. 1, 1924, in Alma, Okla., to Alvin Ray Camp and Ethel Cleo Means Camp, she died on March 18, 2007, in Sugarland, Texas. She and Charles E. Branch were married on March 1, 1956, in Ardmore. She was preceded in death by her husband on July 12, 1963; a son, Jeffrey Alan Ponder, on March 6, 2007; her parents; a sister-in-law, Sarah Jane Camp, on Feb. 24, 2007; and beloved aunts Jackie Roach and Ruth Hammontree.
Raised in Fox, she graduated from high school in 1942 and received her degree in 1967 from the Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha. She taught school at Pernell, devoting 25 wonderful years in that school district. Avanell had a great love for her family and friends and was a wonderful mother, grandmother and loving ""G.G."" (great-grandmother). She attended Milo Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Ponder Cockerell, and husband, Bill, Rosenburg, Texas; four grandchildren, Jeff Ponder, and wife, Connie, McKinney, Texas, Leisa Sanchez, and husband, Joe, and Vicki Cortez-Grace, and husband, Geoff, all of Richmond, Texas, and Ashley Duet, and husband, Chad, Houston; six great-grandchildren, Austin and Montana Cortez, Cole and Joshua Sanchez, and Caleb and Emma Ponder; six younger siblings, Betty DeMarjian, Healdton, Vernon Camp, and wife, Melba, Amarillo, Texas, Virginia Kerns, and husband, Clyde, Weatherford, Patricia Brent, and husband, Gene, Chouteau, Shirley Wilkins, and husband, Ron, Conroe Texas, and Dennis Camp, Ratliff City; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends. Bearers will be Tony Brent, Mitchell Wilkins, Doug Epley, Roger Watkins, John Watkins and Neal Harmon. Alexander Funeral Home in Ratliff City will be open from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. for visitation.
