Alma grew up in Mustang, and holds the Mustang High School record for the highest points scored in a girls basketball game. She was a member of the National Honors Society.

She married Terry Gregory Dorrell in a church service on Sept. 21, 1963. Because they forgot to obtain a marriage license, they had to marry again three days later on Sept. 24, 1963, in their living room. Ever since, she always expected two anniversary presents.

In 1988, they moved their family to Apache, where she enjoyed her role as No. 1 MeMa. She became a member of First Baptist Church of Apache. Alma had a very kind heart and was the type of person who never met a stranger and was always a friend to everyone she met.

When not doing things with her grandchildren, she enjoyed doing crafts, scrapbooking, floral arranging, crochet and reading. She loved to spoil her family with doing special things for holidays and special days.
