Barbara Mills Gist Beloved wife and mother, died at dawn on New Year's Day. She was 81. Born and raised in Clinton, OK,

Barbara attended Oklahoma College for Women. She graduated with honors and worked as a medical technologist until moving to California in 1949 as a newlywed. Married to her beloved husband Joseph for 56 years, she lived in Redding until 1968, in San Jose for 4 years, and Palo Alto since 1972. Barbara was an organist for the Methodist Church for over 60 years, and a PEO sister for over 50 years. She treasured family and friends far and wide, and her connections with people were her greatest pleasure. Barbara recently said, "I do believe in looking for the good in people, and in the world," and this was how she lived. Survived by husband Joseph and children Barby and Herschel, she will be forever remembered as a radiant light in both body and soul.

A memorial service will be held at her church, Wesley United Methodist, 470 Cambridge Avenue, Palo Alto, on Friday Jan. 12, at 12:00 noon. Donations may be made to the Music Dept of her church (office at 463 College Avenue) or Pathways Hospice.
