GOULD, Doris M.

Monday, January 25, 2010

Doris Mae Gould, 88, of Tulsa, OK and Princeton, NJ, died Monday, January 25th, 2010, at Stonebridge a senior living center in Skillman, NJ. Born in Wynona, Oklahoma in 1921, she lived in Tulsa until 2007, when she moved to New Jersey to be near her family.

Mrs. Gould attended Oklahoma College for Women and was working for the war effort when she met and married James Gould, an engineer working on the Douglas Aircraft plant in Tulsa, in 1942.

Her husband was a B-17 test pilot during WWII, and survived several crashes. A transfusion of contaminated blood left him with hepatitis, however, and he died in 1954, leaving her with two small boys.

She went back to school at the University of Tulsa and became an elementary school teacher, a career she followed with energy and joy for nineteen years.

With remarkable determination she adapted to life in New Jersey at Stonebridge, where many friends will miss her kind and caring presence.

She is survived by her two sons, James of Princeton, N.J. and David of Naples, New York, three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Memorial Drive Methodist Church on Saturday, February 20th at 2 PM.
