HOOVER, Vivian E. (Smith)

Vivian Ethel Hoover, 81, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2012. Rosary will be said at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Mass will follow at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Peter Jaramillo of Kansas as celebrant. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Holy Name section of Rose Hill Cemetery in Chickasha, Okla. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St.

 

Mrs. Hoover was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Bradley, Okla. She graduated from St. Joseph's Catholic Academy in Chickasha with honors. She was valedictorian of her class and went on to attend Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha with a scholarship.

 

She married Lawrence Dale Hoover on Oct. 14, 1952. Lawrence was in the military, and they moved quite often. They lived in Weatherford, Okla., from 1952 to 1957; Tulsa, Okla. from 1957 to 1959, and Lubbock from 1959 to 1964. They moved to Amarillo in 1964 and have lived here since that time. The Hoovers had three children, Mary Porter of Cappell and Larry Hoover and Burton Hoover, both of Amarillo. Mrs. Hoover was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church since 1964. Her hobbies included crocheting, knitting, watching Bill O'Reilly and classic movies. 

 

She is a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ethel Eula Smith and Homer Perry Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Lawrence Dale; a daughter, Mary Porter; two sons, Larry Hoover and Burton Hoover; and two granddaughters, Caryn Bailey Hoover and Ellie Marie Porter.
