Beatty, Kathleen V. Kathleen V. Beatty, age 66, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2014, after a long illness, under the care of Hospicare and Palliative Care Services of Tompkins County. Born on April 4, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was a graduate of P.S. Dupont High School in Wilmington, Delaware. She attended Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts on full scholarship. Her employment positions included licensed massage therapist and editorial proofreader of medical and scientific textbooks. She was an avid and serious reader on varied subjects, with a longstanding interest in the metaphysical and spiritual, and from childhood demonstrated a deep love of animals and the natural world. She was a knowledgeable herb gardener and bird watcher. Kathleen's adventurous spirit led to sojourns in San Francisco of the 1960s (encompassing the "Summer of Love"); Sitka, Alaska; Boulder, Colorado; and, briefly, St. Petersburg, Russia. She brought a characteristic intensity to all of her interests and endeavors, often infused by a lively and original sense of fun. She is survived by daughter Alyssa Beatty Turner, sister Elizabeth M. Galbraith, brothers Hugh C. Mason, Jr. and David L. Mason, and longtime close friend Rick Wood. Her father is Hugh C. Mason and her mother was Kathleen G. Mason, recently deceased. Arrangements by Herson Funeral Home in Ithaca. Services will be private.
