Funeral for Doris Jean McLaury, 87, Snyder, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Snyder First United Methodist Church, with Dr. Tim Richardson, Edmond, and the Rev. Jim Perkin, pastor of Snyder First United Methodist Church, officiating. Mrs. McLaury passed away Monday, July 30, 2012, in a Snyder nursing home.

Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery, Snyder, under direction of Becker Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Snyder. Doris Jean was born Dec. 20, 1924, in Snyder, to Charles Madison and Bennie Richardson Portwood.

She was a 1942 graduate of Snyder High School and a 1946 graduate of the Oklahoma College for Women. She married Steve McLaury on June 2, 1946. He died April 16, 1991.

She was a homemaker and a wonderful, loving mother and grandmother and friend to all. She enjoyed cooking and gardening, and it was her mission in life to always do something good and kind for others.

She was a member of Snyder First United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and had served on many committees.

She was also a member of the Garden Club, the Snyder Study Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the So What Club and the Snyder Bridge Club. She is survived by her son, Shane McLaury and wife Karla, of Lawton; daughter, Dana Anderson and husband Mark, of Snyder; grandchildren: Luke and Kara Anderson, Sara and Wes Merchant, Megan and Brett Tracy, and Mitch McLaury; great-grandchildren: Bayley and Wyatt Merchant, Caden and Cason Tracy and Micah Anderson. Doris Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Levi Portwood; sisters: Fern Aldrich, Blanche Portwood and Virginia Storin; and nieces: Ann Fugate and Penny Nelson; and a nephew, Charles Portwood.
