International travel meeting set for Thursday
A meeting to discuss international travel opportunities in 2012 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m on Thursday in Davis Hall Room 124 on the campus of the University of Science and Arts.
Each year USAO sponsors faculty-led educational travel abroad opportunities for students, faculty, staff, alumni and members of the community.
The meeting is open to anyone interested in traveling on the two trips being offered which include a tour of England, Ireland and Wales led by Dr. Stephen Weber, professor of music, and a tip to Greece, led by Jacquelyn Knapp, associate professor of art.
The nine-day England, Ireland and Wales trip will feature visits to Welsh and Irish castles, Oxford, Dublin, Stratford, the scenic Ring of Kerry in Ireland and numerous other sights in London, including Buckingham Palace.
The Greece trip led by Knapp will include a walking tour of Athens, the Parthenon and Acropolis, Delphi, the Greek National Archaeological Museum and a one-day Greek island-hopping cruise.
Both trips will take place in May of 2012.
“We plan these trips a year in advance so students and other travelers can lock in the best prices early and have a year to make financial commitments for the trips”, said Weber.
“One of the nice things about these trips is that the tour companies we enlist take care of all the arrangements, provide tour guides, and allow adequate time for travelers to explore on their own in addition to the group activities” stated Knapp.
USAO also offers a growing study abroad program, directed by Dr. Brenda Brown, Professor of English and Chair of the Division of Arts and Humanities.
“These travel opportunities provide students with a global perspective, allow them to be immersed in a different culture, and experience some incredible historic sites and museums”, offered Brown who has led numerous trips abroad.
This year’s study abroad program will allow students to study for five weeks in London and transfer the credit back to USAO.
At the March 24 meeting, the trips will be discussed in more detail accompanied by a Power Point presentation featuring sights on the trip. Information regarding the itinerary, pricing and enrollment will also be distributed.
