OCLA reunion schedule June 21-24 at USAO
Music, food, games and a lot of good memories are all scheduled to be a part of the OCLA Reunion at the University of Science and Arts June 21-24.
Graduates and former students of the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts from 1965-1974 are invited to attend the reunion.
Registration for the reunion is $65 per person. Registration forms and a complete schedule are available online at www.usao.edu/alumni. For more information, contact Eric Feuerborn at 405-574-1320.
The reunion is the third official get-together of the OCLA graduates. The group held a mini-reunion in 2008 and a full reunion in 2010.
“So many revolutionary educational ideas came from the OCLA era in our school’s history. It is fascinating to hear the stories of that time and meet the people who lived it,” said Eric Feuerborn, director of Alumni Development. “If you attended OCLA, make plans to attend and reconnect. The planning committee has worked hard and has a great reunion planned.”
The planning committee includes Debi Trout, Terry Johnsen, Gordona Snow, Kip and Betty Smith, Jackie McCaughtry, Martin Reding, David Kueter, Eugene Earsom, Linda McElroy and Lila Hoover.
The event starts Thursday with registration at the Stevens Alumni House on the USAO campus. At 6:30 p.m., the reunion moves to the College Farm with barbeque by Jake's Rib. The evening concludes with a 10 p.m. movie.
The reunion continues on Friday with registration at 10 a.m., followed by a spades tournament from noon-3 p.m. At 3:30 p.m., three OCLA faculty members and former OCLA President Robert L. Martin will be featured during a discussion on the foundations of the Interdisciplinary Studies core curriculum at OCLA. The panel discussion is free and open to the public.
An art show is scheduled to follow the panel discussion at 5:45 p.m. A social mixer is scheduled to conclude the evening at 8 p.m.
The reunion begins early on Saturday in Shannon Springs Park with the OCLA Walk/Run Fundraiser at 8 a.m. A $10 donation to participate in the walk/run will benefit the OCLA Scholarship Fund. Former faculty member Jerry Holt will host a movie hour at 10:30 a.m.
The OCLA Music Concert is scheduled Saturday from 2-4 p.m. in Te Ata Auditorium. The concert is free and open to the public. A social club gathering is scheduled at 4 p.m.
The evening concludes at 7 p.m. with a banquet in the Student Center Ballroom. Jerry Holt, an OCLA professor who is now with Purdue University, will be the keynote speaker for the banquet.
The reunion concludes Sunday morning with a memorial service followed by a dove release in memory of those associated with OCLA.
