Registration for girls’ science workshop open now
Area 5th and 6th grade girls can learn about careers in science and technology during the Women in Technology and Science Workshop, scheduled for Nov. 3 at the University of Science and Arts.
The event is designed to encourage girls to consider science and technology related careers through a series of workshops.
Featuring a mix of hands-on activities and informational presentations, the workshops will feature women currently working in medicine, chemistry, agriculture, education and other fields.
The all-day workshop is sponsored and organized by Dr. Jeannette Loutsch, associate professor of biology.
Loutsch is enthusiastic about the impact the workshop will have on girls in attendance.
“These workshops are wonderful building blocks for the young ladies at a critical stage in their education,” Loutsch said. “It is important for them to see the many options available to them first-hand.”
“In addition to talking with women already working in these fields, they will learn about the high-school and college classes they need to prepare themselves for the future.”
The cost of the workshop is $5.00. Those interested in attending are invited to register online at link.usao.edu/WITSF12 and pay the registration fee on the day of the workshop.
This fee covers copy and material costs for the workshops as well as a morning snack. Attendees should bring a sack lunch.
All workshop sessions are held on the USAO main campus, with registration in the lobby of Austin Hall.
Attendees are asked to arrive at 8 a.m. and the workshop is expected to conclude around 3:15.
