USAO Vocal Jazz ensemble keeps it casual

The USAO Vocal Jazz Ensemble prepares for a mini-tour of local high schools with a casual concert at 1:30 p.m. this Friday in the Terrace Room on the campus of the University of Science and Arts. The USAO Vocal Jazz Ensemble is scheduled to perform a casual concert at 1:30 p.m. this Friday in the Terrace Room, located next to the ballroom on the second floor of the Student Services building.

The event is free and open to the public.

The concert will kick off a mini-tour that will take the ensemble off campus to area high schools in Blanchard and Anadarko among others to showcase their talents.

The ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Ken Bohannon, will perform a variety of popular music selections including The Beatles’ “Cant Buy Me Love” and the Mamas and the Papas’ classic “California Dreamin’.”

“We invite anyone who enjoys great vocal music to join us for a late lunch,” Bohannon said.

Bohannon is the coordinator of the music department at USAO and an associate professor of music.

Ensemble players this year include Adam Bryant, a senior music major from Oklahoma City; Kierra Dean, a freshman music major from Moore; Tyler Heilaman, a freshman music major from Duncan; Johanna Jamarik, a freshman drama major from Bluejacket; Dillon Pierce, a sophomore drama major from Chickasha; Callison Vaughan, a junior drama major from Lawton and Alicia Working, a freshman drama major from Mustang.

Wayne Williams, a student at Chickasha High School, is sitting in with the ensemble this trimester as a guest drummer and Rhenada Finch, adjunct instructor, is the group’s accompanist.
