Vollmar Hired in Media
With three books and hundreds of journal articles to his credit, writer Rob Vollmar joins the USAO Media and Community Relations Office this week as staff writer. Besides working with words, his favorite other pursuit is music.
“Rob brings a unique mix of new and traditional media skills that promises to extend the legacy of high quality and adaptive media that the faculty and student body have come to expect from our department,” said Randy Talley, director of media and community relations.
Vollmar has written for numerous print magazines including World Literature Today, where he serves as an associate contributing editor. He has written extensively on and for the Internet but has focused his attention in the last couple of years on writing about classic literature and literacy issues on his website, Liberal Artistry.
Vollmar also is the co-author of several graphic novels including Bluesman and The Castaways, which was nominated for a Will Eisner Comics Industry Award in 2002. His latest book, Inanna’s Tears is due out from Archaia Comics in March 2011.
As a comics scholar and historian, Rob has given countless presentations in libraries and public schools all over Oklahoma and considers public education to be one of a writer’s most important social obligations.
In addition to his career as a writer, Rob has worked as a professional musician and has played most styles of music in venues all over the state. His other interests include classical history and ethnomusicology.
