Dr. Stephen Weber captures the powerful and wildly creative music of master composer Henry Cowell during Monday night’s Festival of Arts and Ideas at the University of Science and Arts. Tuesday’s event begins at 7:30 in the USAO Ballroom.

Tonight is the last night of the Festival of Arts and Ideas, bringing together diverse musical styles and a scholarly panel of USAO faculty: Dr. John Bruce in literature, Dr. Sean Kelley in physical education, Dr. Stephen Breerwood in art, and Dr. Dex Marble, a historian. They will discuss Creativity Across the Disciplines.

Enriching the program are eclectic jazz by an ensemble featuring music legend Joe Settlemires, plus imaginative pieces employing voice, piano, sax and percussion.

Focused on The Creative Process, this festival continues the three-year-long series of festivals at USAO. This event is multidisciplinary, organized much like previous FAI events at USAO and featuring music, art, drama, academic insights and more.

Admission is free, as the series is underwritten by the USAO Foundation. Performers include each of the five musical groups at USAO, as well as faculty and special guests.

The theme ties perfectly to Oklahoma’s hosting of the World Creativity Forum in November. This international event will bring people from several dozen countries into Oklahoma City for speakers and presentations on creativity.

The next FAI event – in spring 2011 -- will expand on the topic and encourage “Fostering Creativity.”
