ALLEN, Irene H. (Hobbs)

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, in South Park Cemetery for Irene Allen, 91, of Roswell who passed away Dec. 6, 2008, after a brief illness. Irene was born on Nov. 14, 1917, in Marlow Okla., to Joe Ira and Zimru Hobbs. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; one sister; her son, David Lewis Allen; her daughter, Linda Johnson; and granddaughter, Melanie Johnson. Irene married John M. Allen in Duncan, Okla., on Nov. 29, 1942. He also preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1979. Irene graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She has been a resident of Roswell since 1945. Irene will be missed by all who knew her. Irene is survived by her son, John C. Allen of Houston; daughters, Caroline Beckner of Santa Fe, and Julie Best of La Spezia, Italy; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
