Memorial service to celebrate the life of former Frederick resident Vivian Irene Barker, 101, Edmond, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson Funeral Home Chapel in Frederick. Mrs. Barker died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, in Edmond. Private family burial will precede the service in Frederick Memorial Cemetery under direction of Jackson Funeral Home. She was born July 11, 1910, on a farm between Frederick and Grandfield to James Caldwell and Ava Mashburn Dotson. She attended Frederick Public Schools and graduated from Frederick High School in 1927. She later attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha where she received her teaching certificate. She began her career at Garber before returning home to Tillman County and teaching at IXL, Frederick and Manitou. She retired from teaching in 1974 after teaching for more than 40 years. She married Ray Barker. He preceded her in death Aug. 26, 1966. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Frederick. Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Anita Kay and Frank Bryan and Jan and Mike Fry, all of Edmond; a sister, Lillian Garrison, Edmond; three grandchildren and spouses: Jan and John Bernal, Burney, Texas; Jon Mark and Fabiana Bryant of Willis, Texas; and Steve and Callie Fry, The Woodlands, Texas; seven great-grandchildren: Christopher, Aaron and Bailey Bernal, Isabela and Nicolas Bryant and Baxter and Bentley Fry; two nephews and spouses: Chris and Donna Smith and Craig and Michelle Smith; and other special family members: John Ed and Tom Dotson, Glenda and Piper Largent. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, T. L. Dotson; and two sisters: Lurlene Eady and Frances Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church in memory of Irene Barker.
