BOOTHE-HOOVER, Elsie M. (Wosley)
Elsie Marie Boothe-Hoover passed away in the Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 following a short illness. Elsie Marie had made her home at Bradford Village Retirement Center in Edmond for the past four years. She had moved to Edmond from Chickasha, Oklahoma to be close to her son, Dwain and his wife Sylvia and her sister, Maybelle Coffman, who was in the nursing home in Edmond. Mrs. Coffman passed away two weeks after Elsie Marie's move. Elsie Marie had an apartment in the same Retirement Community for two years before moving into Bradford Village Nursing Home. Elsie Marie was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma on August 17, 1914 to C.L. and Elsie Wosley. Her Father was an independent dairyman and farmer. She had one brother, Cecil and four sisters; Edna, Marybelle, Hildred and Charlene, all of whom were college graduates. Cecil was a mechanical engineer and Elsie Marie and her sisters all majored in some phase of the Musical Arts. Elsie Marie graduated from the Oklahoma College for Women with a degree in Voice. She had a lovely soprano voice and used it to the glory of the Lord. Elsie Marie was married to Arden Dwain Boothe upon graduation from college until he passed away. She inherited two young children, Carolyn June Boothe and Dwain Holt Boothe. She and Arden had a daughter together, Jane Marie Boothe (deceased). Arden passed away in 1964. Several years later Elsie Marie married Lawrence Dale Hoover, a long time partner with Arden in the Rexall Drug Store. Dale Hoover preceded her in death. Elsie Marie is survived by her son, Dwain Boothe and his wife, Sylvia; L. Dale Hoover Jr. and wife Vivian of Amarillo, Texas; She also had 7 grandchildren, Stephanie Dawn Miller and husband Les of Edmond, Stephan Dwain Boothe and his wife Sally, of Oklahoma City, and Jeffery Alan Boothe and his wife, Sandra, of Yukon. Jennifer Hamilton and her husband Ford, of Houston, Texas; Drs. John Harper and wife Jennifer of San Antonio, Texas and Mary Jane McDaniel of Carlsbad, New Mexico. Also Rev. Jerry Harper, Jane Marie's husband of Houston, and nephew, Dr. and Mrs. Wayne Wolsey, of St. Paul, Minn.Elsie Marie was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church all the time she lived in Chickasha. She was devoted to the music program and both she and Arden were long time members of the choir. She was guest soloist for many occasions in Chickasha, Grady County and the State. She was a member of P.E.O.-Chapter CR, The MacDowell Music Club, and the OCW/USAO Alumna Organization. Elsie was a member of the Chickasha Golf and Country Club and loved to play bridge. She took every opportunity to minister to her friends through the years in many different ways as long as she could driver her car. Elsie Marie will be missed. A Memorial Service celebrating the life of Elsie Marie Boothe-Hoover will be held in the Chapel of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Chickasha on Saturday, April 25th at 2:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the MacDowell Music Club Dinannah Parker Endowment Fund, the Epworth United Methodist Church Memorial Choir fund, or the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma Alumni Association. No flowers please.
